The Drama Desk was
founded in 1949 to explore key issues in the theater and to bring together
critics and writers in an organization to support the ongoing development of
theater in New York. The organization began presenting its awards in 1955,
and it is the only critics organization to honor achievement in the theater
with competition between Broadway, Off Broadway and Off-Off Broadway
productions in the same categories.

The 39 Steps had its Broadway premiere at Roundabout Theatre Company's American Airlines
Theatre, with previews beginning January 4, 2008 and opening night January
15, 2008. The Broadway cast is led by Charles Edwards who reprises the
role of Richard Hannay which he played to great acclaim in the London
production. Edwards is joined by Arnie Burton (Clown), Jennifer Ferrin
(Pamela/Margaret) and Cliff Saunders (Clown). The Broadway
company also includes Claire Brownell, Cameron Fulmar and Mark Shanahan, as
understudies, who
were not part of the Boston production. The limited engagement
ended March 29.
The Roundabout Theatre's
fun was a huge success and a hit with the fans! Since the company had
to vacate the American Airlines Theatre as another production was due to
start there, the production moved to the Cort Theatre where it has now
reopened in an open ended run.
Jennifer also appeared in Hitchcockian thriller The 39 Steps at Boston's Huntington
Theatre Company at the company's Boston University
Theatre mainstage September 14 through Oct. 14. The 39 Steps is
billed as "a hilarious whodunit, part espionage thriller and part slapstick
comedy."
The cast featured original London star Charles Edwards (as Richard Hannay), Jennifer Ferrin (as Annabella, Pamela and Margaret) with
Cliff Saunders and Arnie Burton as the clowns.
“It’s marvelous to find an American girl who can slide effortlessly into
these three types,” says Maria Aitken, the director, speaking of
Jennifer. Madeleine Carroll
plays the “icy blonde” role in the film; here, says Aitken, the part is
“more Garbo-esque.
